May the peace, blessings, and mercy of God be upon you.
The establishment of the Kuwait Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KUWAIT CDC) represents a significant landmark in the public health sector of Kuwait. It is the outcome of extensive work, planning, study, and collaboration with global experts in the field. Establishing this center is part of the Kuwaiti government's action plan for 2024, aimed at adopting the latest scientific and medical guidelines and advanced global standards in this field. This initiative is designed to fulfill the responsibility towards the health and safety of the Kuwaiti community, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and the national development plan (New Kuwait Vision 2035).
The center acts as a national regulatory, advisory, and organizing body, working in collaboration with partners across the country to monitor and prevent the spread of diseases, as well as controlling them. Its role involves coordinating efforts with specialized departments and divisions within the Ministry of Health, and it works on developing plans, programs, and strategies to protect and promote public health and well-being, while mitigating the epidemics and environmental threats. Additionally, the center is responsible for preparedness and response to public health emergencies and natural disasters, as well as addressing the impact of biological and chemical hazards on health, in cooperation with relevant authorities within and outside the Ministry of Health.
The center also aims to enhance the capabilities of Kuwait's health system to address health challenges by relying on scientific methodologies and evidence in policy and program development. Additionally, it provides expert advice in its areas of specialization to national decision-makers. The center also directly collaborates with national reference laboratories to collect and analyze information related to public health threats, outbreaks, and monitor antimicrobial resistance. It fosters communication and exchange of experiences and information with similar centers at the regional and global levels, with the aim of strengthening national capabilities in disease prevention and response to public health emergencies.
As we announce the establishment of this center, we are pleased to acknowledge the national experts that have contributed to its establishment. We are committed to ensuring that the center includes the best national experts in healthcare who have acquired their expertise and scientific degrees from the most prestigious universities worldwide.
