Nutrition Out-Patient Clinic
Nutrition outpatient clinic (OPD) is one of the Nutrition Department branches in Food and Nutrition Administration. It was established in 1985. The clinic receives patients form all the Kuwait governates. Dietary advise and management plans are given for nutrition related problems such as obesity, underweight, anemia, G6PD, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia etc. Pediatric clinic serves children suffering from inborn errors of metabolism, or failure to thrive, or gastrointestinal problems etc. The clinic has a competent team for the patients’ health care consisting of physicians, dieticians and psychologist along with the administrative group. A thorough physical examination of the patient, results of laboratory tests, detailed discussion about the physical and social factors related to disease make the base for the diagnosis done by the physicians. Dietitians’ role then comes in. Based on doctors’ comments and diagnosis, lab results and anthropometric measurements (height, weight, waist and hip circumference) dieticians’ advice and make dietary management plan. Patients are later periodically followed by the doctors and dieticians to assess the effectiveness of dietary management plan and to reinforce the healthy dietary habits. |
